How to play Up Jenkins coin drinking game

Learn how to play Up Jenkins, the coin drinking game. This game can be played anywhere but my fondest memories are at a pub or bar with a long table. The object of the game is simple, guess who has the quarter. This game is played in teams, and therefore needs an even number of players. If you don’t have even players try Spew Detective.

Players: 6+ (The more players the better, however you will need an even number of players)

Gear

  • Alcohol
  • Coin (have a couple on deck incase it gets lost)
  • Table

Setup

Divide the group into two even teams. Have each team sit across from each other, on opposite sides of a table.

How To Play Up Jenkins

The object of the game is to guess which member of the opposing team is hiding the coin under their hand.

  1. Select one team to go first
  2. The team that is going first will take the quarter. This team will pass the quarter discreetly to one another under the table. They may pass it back and fourth inane direction to try and throw off the opposing team. The opposing team CANNOT look under the table. They may however look at facial reactions to determine who is holding the coin.
  3. After 10 seconds has passed the team without the coin yells UP JENKINS. At this point ALL the players on the team with the coin must raise their hands in the air with a closed fist. (It is important all players have a closed fist so it looks like any one of them could be concealing the coin).
  4. After this the team yells DOWN JERKINS! at this point the team slams their hands down flat on the table. Trying their best to science the sound of the quarter getting the table.
  5. The opposing team guesses who is hiding the coin. They may base this decision off of where they heard the coin in the table, and what type of face the opponents are making.
  6. If the location is guessed on the FIRST TRY the team hiding their coin must drink.
  7. If the location the coin is not guessed, the team guessing must take a drink and guess again. They continue to guess until they are correct.
  8. One the coin is found, start a new round alternating which team hides the coin.
