Spoons

Spoons drinking game

The spoons drinking game is a nostalgic classic. Turn the classic card game into a drinking game with our spoons drinking game rules. I think most people have memories of playing spoons as a child. As an adult this game actually gets more fun (and more aggressive). The consumption level for spoons is low to moderate, so it won’t get you too intoxicated. This game is great for smaller gatherings so it works wonderfully as a pre drink before hitting the bar. If you have a larger group try playing Bite the Bag.

Players: 3 – 8

Gear

  • Deck of cards
  • Alcohol
  • One less spoon than the total number of players (ex: 3 spoons for 4 players)
  • Table and chairs

Setup

Sit around the table. Place spoons in the middle of the table. Deal four cards per players.

Spoons Drinking Game Rules

Minimize pausing and hesitation and play spoons at a fast pace for best results. The object of the game is to get four of a kind. The game play is quite simple:

  1. Choose a player to go first.
  2. First player draws a card and discard another leaving four cards in their hand at all time.
  3. Player to the left now does the same and so on. Keep going around until someone gets four of a kind.
  4. When the first player gets four of a kind all players rush to reach for a spoon. The last person to grab a spoon must take a drink (or finish their drink depending on your mood) and is eliminated.
  5. As players get eliminated remove a spoon from the table.
  6. Play until one person remains! This person is the champion.

As an added drinking rule the champion may give out drinks.

As an added adventure try putting the spoons across the room, on another floor, or behind some obstacles. The player that gets four of a kind will have the advantage of a head start to run to the spoons. The remaining players will be left to race to the finish (usually this involves some tackling and foul play).

Reminder: Chugging beer can lead to over consumption. Quit playing if you feel yourself getting too intoxicated. Do not drink and drive.
