Learn how to play Battleshots – the battleship drinking game.

Who can forget the fun-filled afternoon when you and your buddies sat around a board and played battleship?

There is nothing that battleship left behind with different ship types, the inherent strategy, and a game of deception.

But now that you’re all grown up, battleship just isn’t as exciting, right?

To amp it up a little, why not introduce the magic potion that makes everything fun – liquor?

Here’s a remodelling of battleship to make it fun for all you adults out there – a game that we call battle shots – the battleship drinking game! If your looking for another boozy board game try our rules for the Jenga Drinking Game.

Players of the Game

You need 2 or 4 players to play battle shots.

Divide the players into equal teams and get ready to battle it out.

Gear You Need

You will need some supplies before you can formally kick off the game. Here is everything you need before you can start the game:

  • A Battleshots board that will form the basis for your game.
  • Roughly 16 shot glasses to fill with your preferred liquor.
  • The liquor that you choose to fill in the glasses (Beer is the most common choice)

Set Up the Battleshots Game

The game revolves on the same format as that of battleship. Here, each different ship represents a set number of shots.

To set up the game,

  • Bring out your Battle Shots board.
  • Lay down the board between the two teams and erect a privacy screen between the players. You must ensure that the other players cannot see what you are doing behind the screen.
  • Then, arrange your ships on the grid in secret.

To make it easier for you, the higher the ship’s calibre, the more shots it is worth. The submarine is the smallest, the destroyer is larger than the submarine but smaller than the battleship, and so on.

But, if you want to make it interesting for yourself, you can come up with your own assortment. For instance, you can decide that the destroyer is two shot glasses.

How To Play Battleshots

Once the setup is complete, here is how you proceed:

  1. Flip a coin to decide who goes first.
  2. Once the turn has been selected, the winning player calls out the opponent ship’s expected coordinates.
  3. With this call, the opposing team marks the corresponding coordinates to track whatever has been marked. Keep different symbols for a hit and a miss.
  4. If the prediction was correct, the opposite team would drink the shots in that place. A miss does not change anything, and the turn goes on to the next team.
  5. To win the game, the team must make enough correct predictions that the opposite side finishes all their drinks.

Drink Responsibly

Of course, it is all fun and games with Battle Shots, but remember that enjoying a game of battle shots just before you drive, is probably not a good idea.

Tone down the number of shots or replace the drink with a bitter one that players wouldn’t like drinking.

This makes the game more enjoyable, and the associated drinking – more cautious.

Cheers to a great battleship drinking game!
